Jayden Weis of Flemington, NJ completed his Eagle Scout Service Project during the summer of 2025 by volunteering to help with our Fish Tagging Research and Education Program (FiTREP) under the direction of Dr. Douglas Zemeckis (Rutgers Cooperative Extension). Weis partnered with Capt. John Howell, a commercial fisherman and FiTREP volunteer, to tag undersized summer flounder in the Barnegat Bay in collaboration with fellow scouts from Boy Scouts Troop 90 – Branchburg, NJ who also helped to catch and tag fish. Weis and crew tagged 73 summer flounder in total this year which will contribute to our dataset being used to understand summer flounder movements and stock structure off New Jersey. Additionally, Weis caught and donated summer flounder to the Flemington Area Food Pantry. Amazing work from Jayden, John, and company!
